Alicia is a Liberal since she moved from Athens, Greece to Canada in 1970. She is the first Filipina-Canadian lawyer to be admitted to the Law Society of Ontario and the first Filipina-Canadian lawyer to practice law in Canada.

Alicia’s Liberal roots in Canada started with actively supporting Marlene Catterall, former Liberal member of Ottawa-West Nepean.
She then joined the Ottawa-Vanier Federal Liberal Association and was the President of the Ottawa-Vanier Federal Liberal Women’s Club from 2006-2013.

She then joined the executive of the Ontario Women’s Liberal Commission that represented all federal and provincial Liberal women’s clubs until 2016 when the Liberal Party of Canada changed its Constitution that mandated the political affiliation of women’s clubs to only one party. Alicia was awarded the Donna Dale Award in 2017 from the Ontario Women’s Liberal Commission for her contribution to the advancement of women in politics.

When the National Women’s Liberal Commission (NWLCO”) was established on November 4, 2017, Alicia was acclaimed as its first Chair. She continued as its Chair until 2021 when she was also acclaimed as the National Chair of the National Commission at its 2021 AGM.

As National Chair of NWLC, Alicia led the executive to pursue its mandate to engage, educate, train, and support women who want to run for the Liberal Party, to increase communication, and to be visible and accountable to Liberal women. Alicia oversaw grass roots engagement during the 2021 election for Liberal women candidates, webinars on campaign issues, a celebration of Liberal women parliamentarians, mentorship for Liberal women, a successful fundraising for the Judy La Marsh Fund, and a celebration of Liberal women on International Women’s Day. She found ways to increase communication with Liberal women through webinars, e-newsletters, facebook, and Twitter. She engaged Liberal women to be part of NWLC and the Liberal Party.

Alicia works collaboratively with her executive, the Chairs of the Young Liberals of Canada, the Seniors Liberal Commission, the Indigenous Peoples Commission, the Section Commissions, and Liberal women’s clubs.

Avigail Rucker

Candidate for: Young Liberals of Canada > National Organization Chair

My name is Avigail Rucker and I am running for the position of National Organization Chair. I’ve been an active Young Liberal since 2019 and have worked on campaigns on all three levels of government. I’m proudest of my work as President (Federal) of the University of Toronto Young Liberals. After our club went inactive during the pandemic, I successfully reformed the club. This would not have been possible without my amazing members and provincial counterpart. In just four months, we’ve gone from eight to over thirty members. And we’re still growing.

I have talked to Young Liberals across the country and I’ve heard the same thing; it shouldn’t be this hard to start a club. My experience receiving an AGM notice, getting reimbursed for events and even getting answers to questions was difficult. Restoring our movement to pre-pandemic levels begins with resolving these issues. As your National Organization Chair, I would apply my experiences to make sure our clubs receive the best support possible. The development of riding and high school clubs has been the one bright spot post-pandemic and they need to be better included within our organization. I would develop a “How To” handbook for young liberals looking to start their own clubs. We also need to formally recognize the achievements of outstanding clubs and members with annual awards. I look forward to discussing these issues in Ottawa

My name is Elise Bartlett. I am an immigration lawyer and I dedicate part of my career to supporting organizations that help women in situations of domestic violence with precarious migration status and refugees. I will soon be a mother of four children and my husband and I have been a strong couple for almost 24 years.

Involvement in our Party:

Young Liberal
I have been a Liberal who has been involved in our party for 20 years now. First as a young Liberal in my riding, as Vice-President East of the Young Liberals of Canada (Quebec), as President of the Laval University Club in Quebec City. I also participated in the mobilization of youth during leadership races of our Party.

Legal and Constitutional Adviser
After the election of our Leader, Justin Trudeau at the head of our movement and under the presidency of Anna Gainey I was able to serve our party as legal and constitutional advisor (French). It was at that time that we proceeded to develop and draft the Constitution and bylaws governing the Party we know today. This project, which engaged members from coast to coast to coast, was adopted at our 2016 national convention and has made the Liberal Party of Canada more open and accessible.

Vice-President (French)
Since 2018, I have served as Vice President under President Suzanne Cowan. As such, I have made it my mission to be present on the ground, to support candidates and campaigns, especially in the most difficult constituencies. I participate in days of action, go door to door and have the volunteers of our Party at the heart of my mission.

With my background as a lawyer and my knowledge of our Party, I ask for your trust to continue serving our movement as Party secretary.

Elliott Grondin

Candidate for: Young Liberals of Canada > National Communications Chair

Coming from a family that has been involved with the Liberal Party of Canada for almost a century, political discussions quickly became a part of my life, shaping my character, defining my vision of Canada, and laying the foundations for my decidedly progressive ideology.

Therefore, it is in 2015, in my native Eastern Townships, that I took my first steps in the political arena with Team Trudeau. Hence, I quickly understood the importance of involvement in politics, and after 6 years of volunteering with our party, I became Membership Chair of the YLCQ, and then Communications Chair of the YLC, position I am seeking re-election for.

Let’s face it, Communications will be essential in the coming years, as it will be the main way to reconnect with the young people of Canada. I know what’s in front of us, we have to reach out to them, to address the issues that matter to them, to make sure that our friends, our brothers, and our sisters go out and vote Liberal. To do so, we must be creative, and we shall challenge the status quo. My long experience with the party, my longstanding roots in our movement, my relations with key actors from coast to coast to coast, my understanding of rural and urban Canada, and my bilingualism make me believe that I can be the right person. As former Communications Chair, I know what makes a good Communications Chair. I know what it takes.

Always guided by my liberal values that I hold so dearly, I am now looking towards the country we want to build together for tomorrow, the society we want to be and the one we must embody. I will continue to advocate for the LGBTQ2+ community, linguistic rights and the environment within the National Executive.

As a first step in 2021, she led an ad-hoc committee of Senior Liberals in developing a report on who seniors really are in the 2020s – this has been well received. Overall, Hilary and her Board have increased the visibility of Senior Liberals’ issues in both national policy and platform. She plans to continue to build on the success of those initiatives.

My name is Kyle Risby, and I was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon with mixed ancestry. I am Tahltan, African American, and European. I grew up running around the mountains and enjoying Yukon’s land. My educational and work experiences have all been centered around justice. After working for several years as an Indigenous Court Worker for the Council of Yukon First Nations, I was appointed as Yukon’s National Action Committee Rep for Access to Justice from 2016 to 2018.

I am going into my final year at the University of Victoria in the new Indigenous Law program. Growing up in the North, I’ve been able to see the great work of Liberal Governments, and have learned from former MP Larry Bagnell that by using your voice, and standing up for your passions, Northerners can make a difference.

My communications experience has been primarily with Tahltan Nation, and supporting the Nation’s communications departments, facilitating meetings and creating internal and external content. My time working for my Nation has been a privilege. More recently, I started working with Tahltan Nation on the Tahltan Stewardship Initiative, where I work with the Lands, Culture and Heritage, Fisheries, Wildlife, and Communications departments to write articles and create content. My role also involves facilitating engagements, meetings, events and building communication strategies for the Tahltan Stewardship Initiative. My experience with the Liberal Party of Canada has primarily been door knocking in the Yukon. Having learned the importance of relations and advocacy, I hope to positively contribute to electoral readiness and supporting Indigenous Candidates as The Communications Chair for the IPC.

Liam has worked for three Liberal Members of Parliament, and currently works as a Regional Advisor to Minister Steven Guilbeault.

Candidate for: Young Liberals of Canada > National Vice-Chair, English

Hi! My name is Madison and I am running as YLC’s Vice Chair (English).

I am currently completing my Undergraduate Degree in Political Science and Community, Public Affairs and Policy Studies at Concordia University in Montreal. I have been an active volunteer for almost ten years now, volunteering with the Hon. Marc Miller’s 2015 and 2019 campaigns, and MP Brenda Shanahan’s 2021 campaign when she won by a mere 12 votes. My volunteering during campaigns showed me how important Young Liberals are to the Party and to winning elections, and just how impactful door knocking, phone calling, and general community outreach can be in building a connection with your community. If elected, I will continue this work to ensure that Young Liberals take an important seat at the table during elections and between them.

In 2021, I was elected as Vice Chair (English) for the Young Liberals of Canada (Quebec), working with and representing English-speaking Young Liberals and campus clubs across the province. I am currently serving as Section Chair of the Young Liberals of Canada (Quebec), now working in collaboration with my team and Young Liberals across the province in revamping the Young Liberals coming out of the pandemic.

The Liberal Party of Canada is something that I hold near and dear to me. Our party will be faced with great adversity in the coming years, and we need a strong team to push more progressive ideals and deliver real change in Canada. If elected, I will continue my work representing the English-speaking community that I am proud to be a part of and to improve collaboration between Young Liberals and campus clubs from across the country.

Volunteering has been my passion, and driving force of my Liberal journey. Each step has convinced me that people power our party, and that every supporter should be meaningfully heard, valued, and empowered.

My journey began at 16, when I walked into my local MP’s office and offered to help. Francis Scarpaleggia challenged me to get involved – so I started organizing. I founded campus clubs, led commissions, and served as President of the Young Liberals of Canada (Quebec), helping to mobilize an historic youth turnout that powered our party’s best result in Quebec in a generation.

I spent 2015 on the frontlines of Team Trudeau, managing Frank Baylis’ successful nomination, then serving as Campaign Manager in the hotly-contested riding of Outremont. Facing then-Leader of the Opposition Thomas Mulcair, we increased our vote share by 18%, laying the groundwork to win-back the riding three years later.

Following victory in 2015, I was elected YLC National President. I dedicated my efforts to opening the YLC – developing and implementing a new charter, expanding campus club presence, and growing our base by 15,000 registered Liberals.

I’ve brought this passion for local and grassroots organizing to my now-seven years on the National Board, including twice-elected party Vice-President.

I’ve worked closely with EDAs, commissions, and thousands of Liberals across Canada – reinforcing my conviction that we need to improve the volunteer experience, bring new people into our party, and give everyone a stake in our success.

If elected President, I’m committed to ensuring volunteers are at the centre of our party – by empowering riding associations and commissions to make decisions that reflect their communities; reinvigorating our policy process to facilitate open, thoughtful debate; and creating meaningful opportunities for volunteers to grow within our party.

This is the path to long-term strength. I hope to earn your support.

Born and raised in Chilliwack British Columbia, Myah is a proud West-Coaster. She first joined the Liberal Party on her 14th birthday and obsessively watched all the 2015 debates in her middle school library while proudly wearing Liberal red. In 2019 she joined the Chilliwack-Hope Federal Liberal Association as Youth Chair, and is still part of the EDA.

In the spring of 2021, Myah joined the University of Ottawa Young Liberals (UOYL) as Communications Director, and in 2022 was elected President to the UOYL – one of Canada’s most active Young Liberal campus clubs. Within the UOYL, she doubled membership, held countless events, and helped foster a supportive environment where everyone was welcomed with open arms.

In the winter of 2022, Myah was acclaimed as Section Chair of the Young Liberals of Canada (Ontario), a role she currently occupies. Serving Canada’s largest and most active province, Myah has supported Young Liberals in starting up campus and riding clubs, held various panels and networking sessions, and facilitated volunteers to help MPs reach their nomination targets. As a member of the national YLC board, Myah advocates for more equal funding for all provinces and territories, additional national events, and calls for the YLC to be more inclusive with communications, policies, and advocacy work.

In the summer of 2022, Myah was honoured to mentor a group of Young Liberals from across Canada participating in the Young Liberals Academy. She helped these Young Liberals find volunteer experience in the Vancouver area, learn how to become pro door knockers and phone bankers, and facilitate connections with other YLs.

Myah strongly believes in fostering a community where all Young Liberals feel welcome from coast, to coast, to coast. Together, Myah knows the YLC can rebuild to become the strongest youth movement in Canada. Let’s show the world what it is to be a Young Liberal!

Growing up, politics was what we talked about at the dinner table. My sister was the first female President of the YLC and my father ran for nomination. I remember meeting Prime Minister Chretien with my sister when I was in elementary school. I remember asking my junior high teachers to sign up to support my dad.

My early involvement in Liberal politics encouraged me to discover other parts of the country and instilled in me a desire to learn French.

After my legal studies in Quebec, I moved to BC where I completed my Common Law degree at the University of Victoria.

In more than 20 years with the Party, I have held roles such as President of the University of Calgary Liberal Student Association, campaign manager, and Chair of the LPC(A) from 2013 to 2020. During my time on the NBOD my peers selected me to sit on the National Management Committee. I have held roles with the Green Light Committee, the Laurier Club, and the E-day Regulatory and Compliance Committee.

As a western Liberal, I have learned to disagree agreeably, which has allowed me to work well with my NBOD colleagues in the past. My previous experience as an organizer has shown me how to win and what needs to be done.

I am a business owner, husband, father of three beautiful young children, and active community member.

I am hard working and passionate.

I love my family, I love my community, and I love my country.

I would love to be your next VP (English).

Sachit wants to be the President who answers your calls and takes action, with innovative new ideas and tools. He’s ready on day-one to work with you to win the next election.

He wants to embrace and champion equity, diversity and a belief in the goodness of one another. He’s focused on making sure we are a big tent party that can recruit and maintain volunteers and candidates.

The path to winning the next election will take thinking bigger and working harder. Our Party needs the resources to support our teams on the ground.
